High-efficiency Continuous Grain Drying Tower Multi-heat Source Adaptable Grain Drying Unit with Uniform Moisture Reduction

The continuous grain drying tower (WGH series) is an industrial-grade continuous grain drying system developed by Zhengzhou Wangu Machinery for large grain depots, grain processing enterprises, agricultural cooperatives and large farm suppliers. The equipment is designed for continuous drying of high-moisture freshly harvested grain, and can handle corn, paddy, wheat, soybean, sorghum, rapeseed and various oil crop seeds. Dried grain has stable moisture content and intact kernels, meeting long-term storage and subsequent processing requirements.
The equipment adopts a vertical tower structure, integrating a co-current heating section, counter-current cooling section, temping section and grain discharge system, with coordinated smart control. The mixed-flow low-temperature drying process - co-current drying followed by counter-current cooling - prevents rapid surface crusting and blocked internal moisture migration, significantly reducing grain cracking and breakage. It is suitable for both commodity grain and seed grain drying.
Grain is conveyed by a bucket elevator to the top distributor for even spreading, then flows downward by gravity through the drying layers. Clean hot air penetrates the grain bed and carries away moisture. In the co-current section, hot air and grain flow in the same direction for initial heating and moisture removal; in the counter-current section, hot air and grain flow in opposite directions for deep drying and cooling. The equipment features real-time online moisture monitoring - once grain moisture reaches the preset target, the tower automatically adjusts hot-air temperature and discharge rate for continuous stable output. Compared with traditional simple dryers, this model offers larger capacity, superior drying quality, lower energy consumption and a higher degree of automation.

Drying Technology

The equipment employs a mixed-flow (co-current + counter-current) drying technology. Grain first enters the co-current drying section where hot air flows in the same direction as the grain, utilizing high temperature differential for rapid heating and surface moisture removal while preventing thermal-shock cracking. The grain then passes through the temping section where intra-grain moisture naturally migrates and equalizes. Finally, the grain enters the counter-current cooling section where hot air contacts the grain in opposite directions, utilizing a lower temperature differential for deep drying and cooling. This fully exploits the counter-current advantage - deep dehydration at low temperature differential with minimal thermal damage to the grain. The multi-stage process - co-current heating, temping equalization, counter-current drying and cooling - ensures no thermal shock, no over-drying, no sticking, and preserved grain vitality.

 Structural Composition

The continuous drying tower consists of the following core components:
- Drying Tower: Made of hot-dip galvanized steel plate with multi-layer angular-box air distribution structure for uniform hot-air spreading; outdoor installation, no building required.
- Bucket Elevator: Lifts wet grain from ground level to the tower top for continuous transport.
- Top Distributor: Evenly disperses incoming grain into the drying tower, preventing local accumulation.
- Co-current Drying Section: Hot air flows in the same direction as grain for rapid heating and initial moisture removal.
- Temping Section: Dried grain undergoes moisture equalization here, preventing excessive intra-grain moisture gradient.
- Counter-current Cooling Section: Hot air contacts grain in opposite directions for deep drying and cooling; discharge temperature approaches ambient.
- Grain Discharge System: Uses impeller-type discharge device with adjustable speed to control drying time and final moisture.
- Heat Source System: Multiple fuel options including biomass pellets, coal, natural gas, flexibly configured to local conditions.
- Control System: Button or PLC control for fully automated drying, elevating, discharge and cooling operation.

 Core Advantages

Advantage Description
Large Capacity Daily throughput ranges from 100‑1000 tons, with a maximum customized capacity of 1500 tons, meeting large‑scale centralized grain‑processing demands.
Mixed‑flow Quality Protection Concurrent‑flow heating prevents thermal shock, while counter‑flow drying retains grain embryo vitality for superior grain quality.
Uniform Drying Multi‑layer angle‑box air distribution delivers even hot‑air contact on every grain, with moisture deviation of discharged grain less than 0.5%.
Multi‑fuel Options Supports biomass pellets, coal and natural gas. Choose fuels flexibly according to local energy prices to reduce operating costs.
Outdoor Installation Rust‑resistant, weather‑proof galvanized‑steel main body. No workshop construction needed, lowering infrastructure investment.
Energy‑saving & Eco‑friendly Built‑in waste‑heat recovery system. Lower energy consumption for evaporating 1kg of water compared with traditional dryers.

Main Features

1. Mixed-flow Low-temperature Drying: Co-current heating avoids thermal shock; counter-current drying preserves grain vitality. Ample temping zone enables uniform intra-grain moisture migration, significantly reducing cracking and breakage risk.

2. Uniform and Stable Drying: Multi-layer high-efficiency angular-box air distribution structure ensures even hot-air distribution with no dead zones. Batch grain moisture consistency is excellent, with deviation under 0.5%.

3. Smart Automated Operation: Built-in online moisture detector and PLC touchscreen control system support one-touch automatic drying, intelligent hot-air temperature adjustment, and automatic discharge rate control upon reaching target moisture. Manual mode is also retained for different operators.

4. Multi-fuel Compatible Heat Source: Can be equipped with biomass hot-air furnace, coal hot-air furnace, or optional gas/oil heat exchangers, reducing operating costs based on local conditions.

5. Heavy-duty Industrial Structure: Main tower body uses hot-dip galvanized steel plate with excellent corrosion resistance for outdoor installation without enclosure. Elevator, discharge impeller and other wear-prone parts use wear-resistant materials to withstand prolonged heavy-duty operation during harvest season.

6. Strong Site Adaptability: Outdoor installation without building construction saves capital investment. Multiple model specifications cover application scenarios from medium grain depots to large commercial grain depots.

7. Convenient Maintenance: Multiple inspection doors and emergency discharge ports are provided for easy daily cleaning and troubleshooting. Grain varieties can be switched smoothly, minimizing cross-contamination.

Application Fields

This continuous drying tower is widely used in large grain depots, grain processing enterprises, agricultural cooperatives, township grain purchase stations, rice mills, flour mills, seed companies, and oil & grain processing enterprises. It can handle corn, paddy, wheat, soybean, sorghum, rapeseed, coarse grains and various crop seeds.
The equipment uses indirect heat exchange - clean hot air contacts grain directly while flue gas and dust do not enter the grain mass, ensuring pure and contamination-free dried products. Adjustable low-temperature drying conditions can handle both freshly harvested high-moisture wet grain and high-standard seed grain for breeding purposes. After drying, grain is cooled in the cooling section and can be directly stored long-term, effectively preventing mould and sprouting losses.
