Mixed‑flow low‑temperature drying, intelligent control low breakage uniform drying for outdoor installation

The WGH Series Continuous Grain Dryer Tower is an industrial-scale continuous grain drying system developed by Zhengzhou Wangu Machinery for large grain depots, grain processing enterprises, agricultural cooperatives and large-scale farms. Designed for continuous drying of newly harvested high-moisture grain, it handles corn, paddy rice, wheat, soybean, sorghum, rapeseed and various oilseed crops. Dried grain features stable moisture and intact kernels, meeting the requirements of long-term storage and downstream processing.

The machine adopts a vertical tower structure integrating concurrent-flow heating sections, counter-flow cooling sections, tempering sections and a grain discharge system, coordinated by an intelligent control system. It applies a mixed-flow low-temperature drying process — concurrent-flow drying first, then counter-flow cooling — which prevents rapid surface crusting and blocked inner moisture migration, greatly reducing grain fissuring and breakage. Suitable for both commodity grain and seed grain drying.

Wet grain is lifted by the bucket elevator to the top distributor for even loading, then flows downward through drying layers by gravity while clean hot air penetrates the grain column and removes moisture. In the concurrent-flow section, hot air travels in the same direction as the grain for initial heating and dehydration; in the counter-flow section, air moves against the grain flow for deep drying and cooling. With real-time online moisture monitoring, the tower automatically adjusts hot air temperature and discharge speed once the target moisture is reached, ensuring continuous and stable output. Compared with conventional simple dryers, this model delivers higher throughput, better drying quality, lower energy consumption and a higher level of automation.

 Drying Process

This machine applies a mixed-flow (concurrent + counter-flow) drying process. Grain first enters the concurrent-flow drying section where hot air travels in the same direction, using a large temperature difference to rapidly heat the grain and remove surface moisture while avoiding thermal-shock kernel cracking. Grain then enters the tempering section where internal moisture migrates naturally toward equilibrium. Finally, grain passes through the counter-flow cooling section where air contacts the grain counter-currently, completing deep drying and cooling with a small temperature difference. The multi-stage process — concurrent heating, tempering and moisture equalization, counter-flow drying and cooling — involves no thermal shock, no over-drying and no caking, fully preserving grain vitality.

 Structural Components

The continuous dryer tower consists of the following core components:

Dryer Tower Body:Hot-dip galvanized steel plate with multi-layer angle-box air distribution for uniform airflow; outdoor installation without a building.

Bucket Elevator:Lifts ground-level wet grain to the tower top for continuous feeding.

Top Grain Distributor:Spreads incoming grain evenly inside the tower, preventing localized accumulation.

Concurrent-Flow Drying Section:Hot air flows with the grain for rapid heating and initial dehydration.

Tempering Section:Grain moisture equalizes here, eliminating excessive internal moisture gradients.

Counter-Flow Cooling Section:Air contacts grain counter-currently for deep drying and cooling; discharge temperature approaches ambient.

Grain Discharge System:Paddle-wheel type with adjustable speed, controlling drying time and final moisture.

Heat Source System:Optional biomass pellets, coal, natural gas and other fuels, flexibly configured to local conditions.

Control System:Button-type or PLC control; fully automated drying, elevating, discharging and cooling.

Main Features

1,Mixed-flow low-temperature drying: concurrent heating avoids thermal shock and counter-flow drying preserves grain vitality; ample tempering zones allow full internal moisture migration, markedly reducing fissuring and breakage risk.

2,Uniform and stable drying: multi-layer high-efficiency angle-box air distribution leaves no dead zones; excellent batch moisture consistency with deviation ≤ 0.5%.

3,Intelligent automation: online moisture sensor and PLC touch-screen control enable one-touch automatic drying; once target moisture is reached, the system smartly adjusts air temperature and discharge speed; manual mode is retained for different operator habits.

4,Multi-fuel compatibility: biomass or coal hot-air furnaces as standard, optional gas/oil heat exchangers — local conditions decide the lowest operating cost.

5,Industrial-grade robust construction: hot-dip galvanized steel tower offers excellent corrosion resistance for open-air use without sheds; wear-prone parts such as elevator buckets and discharge paddles use wear-resistant materials to withstand long harvest-season full-load operation.

6,Strong site adaptability: outdoor installation without building construction saves infrastructure investment; multiple model sizes fit scenarios from medium depots to large commercial grain depots.

7,Easy maintenance: multiple inspection doors and emergency discharge ports simplify daily cleaning and troubleshooting; quick changeover between grain varieties minimizes cross-contamination.

Applications

This continuous dryer tower is widely used in large grain depots, grain processing enterprises, agricultural cooperatives, township grain purchasing stations, rice mills, flour mills, seed companies and grain & oil processing plants. It handles corn, paddy rice, wheat, soybean, sorghum, rapeseed, miscellaneous grains and various crop seeds.

With indirect heat exchange, clean hot air directly contacts the grain while flue gas and dust never enter the grain column, keeping dried product clean and contamination-free. Adjustable low-temperature operation handles newly harvested high-moisture wet grain as well as high-standard breeding seeds. After cooling, grain can go straight into long-term storage, effectively averting losses from mildew and germination.
